Heat Safety in the Workplace

The heat safety program is designed to protect employees from heat-related illnesses while working in high temperature indoor and outdoor environments. 

The information below includes the UMD Written Heat Safety Program as well as supplemental fact sheets provided by national health and safety organizations.

For Supervisors and Managers

  • Department Heat Illness Prevention and Management Plan
    Required for all departments that have employees exposed to heat indices greater than 80°F.
  • Daily Heat Illness Prevention Checklist
    Required for all departments when the heat index is expected to be greater than 80°F.
