All diving for research or coursework associated with the University of Maryland, through any UMD department or program, must be conducted under the University of Maryland's Scientific Diving Program. Scientific diving is defined (29 CFR 1910.402) as diving performed solely as a necessary part of a scientific, research, or educational activity by employees whose sole purpose for diving is to perform scientific research tasks.
Scientific diving and boating safety information on this website is provided to faculty, staff, students and volunteers who conduct scientific dives under the auspices of the University of Maryland.
