Safety Orientation for Graduate & Teaching Assistants Discontinued

As the summer semester approaches, ESSR is announcing a shift in the way that incoming laboratory section teaching assistants will be trained. In order to more flexibly train students ready to TA, we are adding a brand new online class that focuses on TA safety responsibilities and emergency response. We feel that this  class fully delves into the subject matter while minimizing the in-person time commitment of the students during a busy time of year.

If you are a laboratory teaching assistant (where labs have chemical, biological, or physical hazards) please take the online Laboratory Teaching Assistant Training and sign up for a New Laboratory Researcher Training in-person class (New Laboratory Researcher class does have online prerequisites of Chemical Hygiene and Laboratory Exposure Controls training in order to register). New Laboratory Researcher Training is a 2.5 hour in-person class that is offered multiple times every month, throughout the year, to maximize scheduling compatibility.

This new training arrangement will completely replace the previous 3.5 hour "Safety Orientation for Teaching & Graduate Assistants" in-person class.

If you need to take Fire Extinguisher Training, please contact the Fire Marshal's Office at firemarshal@umd.edu to arrange this training.
